Music means different things to different people. To some, it’s a form of escape. For others, it’s a way of expression. The genre of indie music is known for its calming and mellow elements. By bringing everything people know and love about indie and redefining it; Hotel Ugly is taking indie into their own hands. Garnering success on social media, their hit song “Shut Up My Mom’s Calling,” served as the catalyst between them and their audience. Brother’s Chris and Mike Fiscella are proud to serve their musical styles through Hotel Ugly.

Having a deep rooted appreciation for music, this was what made Chris and Mike start Hotel Ugly. As teens, they began to experiment with different musical aspects which lead them to two different musical paths. Mike preferred the world of audio mixing, fine tuning a song to perfection. Chris discovered his talent in songwriting as well as instrumental. Their two talents provided Hotel Ugly the building blocks upon which their first EP was built on.

“The Ugly Ep” was an introduction to Hotel Ugly. Featuring songs like “2Ugly”, “Apple Sauce”, “Mikey and the Frogs”, and the break out single , “Shut up My Mom’s Calling”. All of them serve as the very essence of what Hotel Ugly is. By bringing the soothing style of indie with a sprinkle of pop element; they’ve provided the indie scene with a new approach. But what truly put Hotel Ugly on the map was their single “Shut Up My Mom’s Calling.” Featured in various different TikToks, the use of their songs allowed Hotel Ugly the platform it has today. With this platform, they’ve continued to spread their music as they prepare the world for their debut album.

Following the success of “Shut Up My Mom’s Calling,” Hotel Ugly has been in the works of releasing new music. On June 4, 2021, they’re planning on releasing a new single called “The Ballad of Eddie Jabuley”. With this single, they are expanding their musical inventory and thus, broadening their fan base. “The Ballad Of Eddie Jabuley” is just a taste of what their album will consist of. Indie-pop with stellar audio mixing, the voices of both Chris and Mike come together to further enrich their fanbase. Knowing the importance of a strong fanbase, Hotel Ugly has implemented their personal core values into their band.

Hotel Ugly has taken their personal core values a step further. By aligning their band with the cause, they’ve made it known that Hotel Ugly seeks to improve the conversation surrounding mental health. Setting up a GoFundMe is a prime example of their dedication to the cause. By donating the money made on the GoFundMe to the Mental Health of America; they’ve set mental health as a part of the band’s practice. For now, the GoFundMe is their main route of contribution. However, they plan to spread the importance of mental health in the future through their tours.

San Antonio and San Marcos are just a few of the spots that Hotel Ugly has their sights set on. As local Houson talents, they plan to expand their fanbase across all of Texas. As the pandemic dies down, Hotel Ugly’s plans to begin a state-wide tour is well on it’s way and fans can look forward to hearing the live vocals of Hotel Ugly.

While they have made an impact thus far, Hotel Ugly knows there is still a way to go. In terms of success, they’ve reached a level most bands don’t see. As they prepare their fans for the release of their new album, fans of indie music are in for a world of surprise through Hotel Ugly.
