The daily average for new COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths all declined on the day for the first time in months, but have still all increased from two weeks ago. The seven-day average of new cases slipped to 100,155 on Tuesday from 105,754 on Monday, according to a New York Time Tracker, but has increased 4% from two weeks ago. The daily average for hospitalizations fell to 33,485 from a revised 34,100 on Monday, which was up from a revised 34,035 on Sunday. That marked the first daily decline since mid-April, but was still up 13% in two weeks. The daily average for deaths declined to 327 from 389 on Monday, the lowest number since June 23, but has increased 13% in two weeks. Meanwhile, the positivity rate, of P.C.R. tests reported to the U.S. government, has climbed to a five-month high of 17%.
