BBC News NI is granted rare access to one of the 2,500 disused mines across Northern Ireland.

There are more than 2,500 abandoned mines dotted across Northern Ireland.

BBC News NI was granted access to one outside Templepatrick in County Antrim.

The Department for the Economy now owns and monitors all abandoned mines in Northern through an online interactive map.

The last coal mine closed in Coalisland, County Tyrone, in 1970.
