: Earthquake rattles Silicon Valley, San Francisco

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 was felt throughout the San Francisco Bay Area on Tuesday, around 11:42 a.m. Pacific time. The United States Geological Survey reported the 5.1 magnitude quake, as well as an aftershock that registered roughly 3.1 on the Richter scale about 5 minutes later, and said that it was centered less than nine miles east of south San Jose, the largest city in the South Bay part of the region, which is home to several of the world’s largest tech companies, including Apple Inc. AAPLand Google parent Alphabet Inc. GOOGLGOOG The quake was felt throughout the region, including in San Francisco, the Peninsula and the East Bay.
