: Alcoa calls for U.S. to halt Russian aluminum imports: report

Read Time:45 Second

Alcoa Corp. AA, a large miner and producer of aluminum, has asked the White House to halt U.S. imports of the metal from Russia, according to Reuters. The move comes as Russia intensifies its attacks on Ukraine. “Alcoa believes that the U.S. government and other countries should sanction Russian aluminum,” a company representative told Reuters, which noted that Alcoa ceased doing business with Russia in March. The request from Alcoa comes after Reuters reported earlier in the week that the Biden administration was weighing whether to bar the sale of aluminum from Rusal, a large Russian aluminum producer, from selling in the metal in the U.S. Shares of Alcoa dipped 0.2% after hours, after finishing the regular session up 2.6%.
