Trump ally Steve Bannon convicted on contempt of Congress charges

Read Time:40 Second

Former Donald Trump strategist Steve Bannon was convicted on Friday by a Washington, D.C., jury of contempt of Congress. Bannon was accused of ignoring a subpoena from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters. Bannon on Thursday declined to testify, and his lawyers did not call witnesses in the trial. They instead argued that the judge should simply acquit Bannon, saying prosecutors hadn’t proven their case. Each of the two misdemeanor charges against Bannon is punishable by at least 30 days and up to a year in jail, reported the Washington Post. He is expected to appeal.
