U.S. stocks open slightly lower as investors await more earnings reports

U.S. stocks opened slightly lower on Wednesday following their strongest advance in a month as investors awaited more quarterly earnings reports. The S&P 500 was off 5 points, or 0.1%, at 3,931. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 50 points, or 0.2%, to 31,779. The Nasdaq Composite lost 3 points, or 0.1%, to 11,715. The highlight of Wednesday’s earnings calendar will arrive after the close, when Tesla Inc. reports its second-quarter results.
