The White House on Wednesday said President Joe Biden was referring to treatment for skin cancer he had before taking office, when he told an audience in Massachusetts that he has cancer. In remarks during a climate speech, Biden recounted a childhood experience with oil emissions and said, “that’s why I and so damn many other people I grew up with have cancer and why for the longest time Delaware had the highest cancer rate in the nation.” White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates pointed to a tweet by a Washington Post fact checker that said Biden had had non-melanoma skin cancers removed before he became president. “This is what the President was referring to,” Bates said in a tweet.
