Selloffs in Dow, S&P 500 belies bullish market internals

Read Time:44 Second

While the Big 3 stock market indexes are all falling, market internals are suggesting the broader stock market is rallying. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 60 points, or 0.2%, the S&P 500 declined 0.3% and the Nasdaq Composite slipped 0.1%. Meanwhile, the number of advancing stocks outnumbered decliners 1,902 to 1,135 on the NYSE and 2,351 to 1,777 on the Nasdaq. And volume in advancing stocks represented 72.7% of total volume on the Big Board and 63.4% of total volume on the Nasdaq. The index that better represents the market internals rather than the Big 3 index is the Russell 2000 index of small-capitalization stocks, which rose 0.3%.
