Read Time:58 Second

Stocks finished a volatile session mixed on Tuesday, with the Dow adding to weekly losses ahead of a key reading on inflation due Wednesday. The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average shed about 85 points, or 0.3%, to end near 32,160, despite climbing as high as 32,752.17 earlier in the session. The loss came a day after the index booked its lowest close since March 9, 2021, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The S&P 500 index rose 0.2% Tuesday, while the Nasdaq Composite Index closed up 1%, as rising bond yields somewhat moderated. The 10-year Treasury rate fell 9 basis points Tuesday to 2.99%. Investors will be awaiting an update Wednesday on the consumer price index, which is expected to have eased to 8.1% in April from 8.5% printed a month earlier. For the week so far, the Dow was down 2.3%; the S&P 500 off 3% and the Nasdaq 3.4% lower.
