Nasdaq falls toward 18-month low despite positive breadth readings

The Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.0% in midday trading Thursday, putting it on track for an 18-month closing low, even though the Nasdaq exchange’s internals are showing a positive reading. The number of advancing stocks topped decliners 2,145 to 2,030, while volume in advancing stocks represented 55.1% of the total volume. The NYSE is a different story, however, as decliners led advancers 1,805 to 1,263 and declined volume was 55.3% of total volume. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 was down 1.1%.
